Short Hills was started as a planned community in 1879 by Stewart Hartshem . Short Hills is about twenty miles away from Manhatten and shares its' public transportation.
Short Hills is still a part of Millburn Township and as such they get the liberty of sharing the school district; they have five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The Millburn High School was rated best public high school in the state for 2008 by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.
